In the course of the last 3 years, I’ve learned many things about the plight of independent musicians. One thing that any indie artist will confirm: we have to wear many hats. If you want to make progress, it’s pretty much a do-it-yourself endeavor. The music industry is one of the most exclusive industries in the world, keeping the indie artist from all of the avenues necessary for success. It’s common knowledge that only the select few musicians ever ‘make it big’. That’s why mothers cringe when their teenage son says he wants to be a rock star. They know that it probably won’t happen. There are simply not enough support systems for young musical aspirants. On the other hand, there are many outlets for sports, even though professional sports, statistically speaking, are just as difficult to succeed in, if not more so!”
