Life was too short to wait on following a dream, he and Apryll decided last year. They approached their children — daughters Kendra, 18; LaRae, 16; Alisa, 15; and Meghan, 12; and sons Sean, 9; Joseph, 7; and Ammon, 5 — late one night with the idea of selling everything, buying a motor home and going on the road as bluegrass musicians.
Their website has mp3 samples, and you can buy their cds there.

The Whipsaws have scored the ultimate independent rock band’s dream, and it isn’t a major label deal — it’s a free rehearsal space stocked with a lifetime’s supply of cold beer.
But the taps in the wall of the Moose’s Tooth Brewing Co. warehouse aren’t working too hard this Sunday afternoon. Guitarist Aaron Benolkin and drummer James Dommek Jr. each nurse glasses of their favorite microbrews between songs, but the quartet is chugging water like a football team doing two-a-days. This is a work shift for the Whipsaws, a band which is also a business, an honest to goodness LLC.
This second straight day of three-hour rehearsals is preparation for a series of release parties for the band’s new CD, “60 Watt Avenue,” this month and the base for touring the Lower 48 later this year.
“One more time,” singer Evan Phillips says after the band’s third stab at “Where I Live,” a song by Canadian singer-songwriter Leeroy Stagger. Stagger will open the Whipsaws’ upcoming shows, and the band plans to back him on a few tunes.

The podcast may be on hiatus, but there’s news a-brewin’. Stay tuned for an announcement that may turn the promotion of independent artists in Alaska on its head.

Then you’ll dig The Pirate AK, a re-new podcast from the creators of the ANC Podcast.
It’s a nice way to hear good music. Right.

What a great way to get your music out there. This is the only Alaskan musician I know of that is using this resource. Know of any others? Are you one? Leave a comment or shoot me an email.

Life being what it is, the ANC podcast is going to go on hiatus. Look for more ‘casts in the near future, and keep coming back for posts and info about your favorite Alaskan bands.
Thanks to all of you for listening, and supporting the podcast through the past 50 episodes. I couldn’t have hoped for more response.
